Marvin Garbeh Davis, Sr. is a Liberian author, pastor, and poet whose work explores the intersections of faith, labor, memory, and the human condition. Ministry
He is the Founder and Lead Pastor of Hilltop Citizens' Church in Zubah Town, Monrovia. What began as a marriage ministry has grown into a thriving community centered on practical biblical teaching, intentional discipleship, and life transformation. His ministry is marked by a passion for grounding spiritual truth in everyday realities, helping individuals and families navigate life with faith, clarity, and purpose.
Early Life & Education
Marvin's early life was shaped on the Liberia Agricultural Company plantations, where his father worked as a rubber tapper for over three decades. Growing up within that environment, he witnessed firsthand the discipline of labor, the weight of sacrifice, and the resilience of families bound together by both hardship and hope. He received his early education through Catholic mission schools on the plantations — an experience that instilled in him both structure and a lifelong appreciation for learning. These formative years continue to inform the texture, depth, and authenticity of his literary voice.
Career
In addition to his pastoral work, Marvin serves bi-vocationally with the Ministry of Health, where he contributes to human resource development and capacity building. This dual calling — ministry and public service — grounds his perspective in both spiritual conviction and practical engagement with real-world systems and challenges.
Literary Work
He is the author of Man, Rubber and the Devil, a novel that draws from Liberia's plantation history to illuminate the human cost of labor, the complexities of survival, and the enduring power of hope. His broader body of work — spanning fiction, poetry, and essays — has appeared in literary platforms such as Barrelhouse, Kalahari Review, and Anacapa Review, where he continues to engage global audiences with stories rooted in African realities yet resonant across cultures.
Family
Marvin lives in Monrovia, Liberia, with his wife, Angea — an entrepreneur and life coach who serves alongside him in ministry and leads the Children's Ministry. Together, they are committed to building both family and community through faith, service, and intentional living.
Through his writing and ministry, Marvin seeks to give voice to the unseen, preserve lived histories, and inspire reflection, endurance, and hope in a changing world.
